Songs In The Night

The Story Of Fanny Crosby

By Joseph Ransom.

"It is not enough to have a song on your lips. You must also have a song in your heart". Do trials turn your life into tragedy or triumph? Most people held no hope for Fanny Crosby, the little blind girl. Blindness, cholera, and family tragedy could not prevent her from becoming a woman of faith who wrote almost 9,000 hymns the world has sung for a hundred years. Through tragedy and triumph, Fanny Crosby learned to minister to others not from her own heart, but from the heart of God. Choosing to live in virtual poverty in order to reach the lost, there wasn't anyone she couldn't touch - and few whom she didn't. Fanny Crosby walked with prostitutes and presidents, sinners and statesmen, sharing with all who would listen of her faith in Jesus Christ. No matter what life brought her way, she always had a song in her heart.

The Christmas God Came To Dinner

God's Love Has No Borders

By Joseph Ransom.

Near the end of WW II, Elizabeth Vincken and her son, Fritz, hide in their one room cabin as the Battle of the Bulge rages just outside their door.  They are unaware of the Christmas miracle about to take place, as both American and German soldiers seek refuge under their roof.  Elizabeth doesn't see soldiers, but hurt, frightened, lost men in need of food and comfort as she risks her own life and the life of her son to welcome them into her cabin, with one condition: "the guns and war remain outside."  Can soldiers who are taught to hate be taught to love?  Can a German medic be trusted to save the life of a dying American?  Can the message of Christ's birth reach through opposing uniforms to the hearts and souls of men?

Can easily be adapted as a one act play. This one has even been preformed by a State University in Kansas as a class project. Also works well combined with the shorter version of Toys of War for a two act play, one during WWI Christmas and the second act a WWII Christmas.

Cast: 10 male, 1 female, 1 male approx 12 years old

I'm Not Really Blind, I Just Can't See

Adapted for the stage by Ron Laws

Based on the novel By Joseph Ransom

Having lost his sight at the age of 22, Joseph Ransom faces all of the challenges of being blind. From maintaining friendships and setting up housekeeping to attending college and pursuing his dreams, Joseph learns what things are really important in life. When faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, he alternates between stubborn self-reliance and complete helplessness. Running through all of this is his continued dependence on his Creator, as he works his way through a world he can't see. This is not simply the story of a sight-impaired person trying to make headway in a sighted world, it also tells of a journey laced with eternal optimism and extreme compassion. It is a story of a goal-setter and a dreamer. It reminds us that even in a world limited by blindness, God's light can always be seen.  Cast: 11 male, 8 female, some individuals may play more than one role.

Video available.
